Camel Trekking

1 Day

Camel Trekking away from tourist routes with real bedouins

Across high sand dunes and in-between Bedouin villages.

Explore the Wahiba Sands desert in Oman and meet the remaining Bedouins who live a very simple and traditional life.

A camel ride in Oman was for Bedouins in the past an energy-saving transfer to move through the desert, and you will feel completely relaxed after you get to know your camel well and enjoy the trip on your “king of the desert.”

These lovely animals are perfect for desert camel trekking and long camel rides in Oman and will let you feel bounced back to the Bedouin life of the past.

If you choose our 2-day camel trekking trip in Wahiba Sands, you will sleep in an authentic Bedouin camp or, in warmer nights, enjoy an “under the stars” camping experience with delicious local food. Try the traditional Arabic coffee, cooked on a charcoal fire, and taste fresh dates – the main energy supply of Bedouins in past days.

Go for a desert journey, guided by Salim or Ahmed, they grew up on the middle of the Wahiba Sands.

The family tribe know every dune, every well, and every hidden corner of the desert. Their camels, their stories, the Bedouin villages, the food cooked over open fire – with them you don’t just visit the desert, you live it.

I joined their trek and quickly felt part of their world. It was more than a ride – it was sharing laughter around the fire, learning small desert secrets, and trusting their camels across dunes that looked impossible to cross.

The Camels

Badr and Salim’s camels are their pride. Some have been with the family for over 20 years. They are steady, eager, and fearless when it comes to climbing tall dunes. At night, the camels are released to graze freely in the sands. In the morning, everyone helps saddle up – a real Bedouin routine.

Accommodation

Nights are spent in simple Bedouin tents for up to 4 people. Bring your own sleeping bag if possible, though some equipment can be provided.

This is raw desert life – no electricity, just the glow of fire and the stars. There’s a support vehicle for charging phones, but it’s best to bring a power bank or go offline for the trip.

Bathrooms are as basic as it gets: sometimes just the desert, sometimes a cold shower at a well.
